I use my mailing list to announce upcoming shows and events, or occasionally offerings of classes. Right now I'm averaging about 8 to 10 messages a year. Also, since I'm the only person who can post to the list, you can't get spam off of it. (And, of course, I don't sell, lease, or share my mailing list with anyone).
